Fire safety is a very crucial issue in Indonesia, considering the various fire incidents that often occur in office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, hospitals, and industrial areas. In addition to threatening life safety, fires can also cause great material losses. Thus, the existence of Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) is very crucial to ensure that a building or facility has met the safety standards needed to overcome potential fire hazards.
Fire Safety Certificate is an official document issued by the authorities to state that a building has fulfilled all safety standards set to prevent and combat fires, including fire protection systems and evacuation procedures. The FSC shows that the building owned the technical requirements related to fire prevention and control, such as the installation of fire extinguishers, evacuation routes, fire alarm systems, and the capacity and readiness of officers in dealing with emergency situations.
The Importance of Fire Safety Certificates:
1. Ensure Building Safety
With the FSC, the building already equipped with good fire safety system, which can speed up the evacuation process and reduce the risk of injury or death. Fire extinguishers, evacuation routes, and properly functioning alarm systems are some examples of efforts that can reduce material losses and fatalities.
2. Reduce Legal Risk
In Indonesia, building owners or managers are required to comply with fire safety standards set by the government. If a building catches fire and does not meet safety standards, the owner or manager may be subject to legal sanctions, including fines or even building closure. Having valid FSC shows that the building owner has made maximum efforts to prevent and overcome fires.
3. Increasing Building Value
For companies or building owners who focus on public services, such as shopping centers, hotels, or hospitals, having FSC can increase consumer confidence. In addition, FSC can also increase the value of a building in the property market. A certified building shows that the owner cares about safety, which can be an added attraction for potential buyers or tenants.
Applications for Fire Safety Certificate can be made online through the JakEvo system. If all requirements have fulfilled, the authorities will issue Fire Safety Certificate with validity period of 1 year which must then be renewed to ensure safety every year. This certificate is proof that the building has met the established fire safety standards.
